French Provincial
French Provincial is a style of architecture or furniture characteristic of the provinces in 17th- and 18th-century France.
The history of French architecture runs in parallel with its neighbouring countries in Europe, with France being home to both some of the earliest pioneers in many architectural styles, and also containing some of the finest architectural creations of the continent. French provincial homes are modelled after country manors in the French provinces. These brick or stucco homes are stately and formal, often with steep hipped roofs and a square, symmetrical shape with windows balanced on
each side of the entrance. The tall second storey windows add to the sense of height.
A main component of French Provincial style is attention to details. A lot of items on the small side lead to a big look. Think small buttons and beads, tiny frames, vintage postcards, ribbon work and basketry. French Provincial isn’t formal French design with its ornate chandeliers – this is style that is apparent in the charming French countryside and provincial towns. Beautiful trinkets in a lovely array of colours and props, that might naturally be found in a French farmhouse, equal a décor that is not only beautiful, but fun to reproduce in your own home.
